On finding pretty stationery

One of my goals for 2016 is to send 50 handwritten notes. I love both receiving and sending mail, so this isn't a very hard goal for me to achieve. I also love all things paper, so my collection of notecards and stationery is pretty extensive. If you're hoping to start writing more notes to friends + family (do it! it's so fun and such a surprise in this day and age!), here are some of my favorite brands of notecards and places to find them.

Mara-Mi // You can find these at Target, Homegoods, TJ Maxx, and I'm sure many
other places. If I'm in one of these stores and find a box of notecards
that I just have to have, it usually ends up being Mara-Mi.

Target Dollar Spot // Seriously! There are always tons of options to choose from,
and it's usually only $1 for 8 cards. Because I do send so much mail, it's nice
to have some cheaper options in the mix. And they really are super cute.

Rifle Paper Co // Such pretty pieces! The cards are really thick and high quality,
and the illustrations are always beautiful.

Carlton Cards // These are just your basic notecards that you can find
at Hallmark, Target, etc., but they have some really cute designs sometimes.
Because I like to have notecards and stationery on hand for every
occasion, I can find some good filler pieces to round out my collection.

I also really love the notecards + stationery that I have from Kate SpadePapyrus, and greenroom.  If you haven't sent a handwritten note in the mail recently, I encourage you to first go buy some really cute stationery, and then make someone's day by sending them a good ol' fashioned letter.

DIY Birthday Cards

When I have the time, I really enjoy making cards to mail to people. I am not the craftiest, so my cards tend to be pretty simple. With just a few basic craft supplies, you can make some bright and cheerful birthday cards. I made these cards to send to our nieces and nephews (nine currently, with three on the way!) throughout the year. It's easier for me to know I have a good supply of birthday cards on hand, so that when the time comes I'm not stuck sending a card out late!

What you'll need:

What you'll do:

Using fun patterned or brightly colored paper, cut out shapes for the ice cream cone, balloon, party hat, and popsicle layers.

Glue the shapes to the front of the cards. Add baker's twine to the ballon for string and colorful poms to make the ice cream and the party hat topper. Cut through both sides of the card for the popsicle, making sure that there's still enough of an edge to keep the card intact. Glue a craft stick to the back of the popsicle card.

And there you have it! Very simple, colorful birthday cards that even kids can make!

Pretty Thank You Notes

I'm making more of a habit this year of writing + sending notes. I've always been one for sending handwritten notes, but I'd like to do it even more this year. That means getting organized with birthdays and holidays, and of course stocking up on pretty paper! In the last few weeks I've stumbled upon several cute thank you notes. Clearly I'm drawn to polka dots, kraft paper, and pretty script:) And the best part is I surprisingly found all of these either at Target, TJ Maxx, or Homegoods! Cute stationery for less than $5 a pop - I'd say that's a win.

Lists, Post-Its, and Notepads

Hi.  My name is sherri lynn and I am a compulsive list-maker.  I make to-do lists, grocery lists, to-pack lists, wish lists, books-I've-read lists, movies-to-watch lists, recipes-to-try lists.  Sometimes on my to-do list, I write things that I've already done.  Just so I can experience the satisfaction of crossing it off. Coupled with this obsession with lists is my obsession with post-its and notepads.  I have a drawer full of them that will probably take me years to use, but here are some more I've recently found:

Z gallerie, $6.95

crane & co, $9

barnes & noble, $4.95

amazon, $12.50

chronicle books, $12.95

barnes & noble, $6.95

amazon, $8.57

chronicle books, $9.95

Does anyone else make lists all the time?  Do you have an unnecessary amount of something sitting in a drawer somewhere?
