If you haven't figured it out already, we're moving! Caleb received a job offer on Saturday for a job that will allow him to do exactly what he loves, so we are very excited! We are moving to an area that we have wanted to settle down in, and we can't wait to figure out a new place together!
I spent the beginning part of this week trying to secure a place for us to live, and everything is finally settled so I am relieved. We decided to rent for the first year that we're there, so we can get to know the area and spend time looking for a house to buy! We didn't want to feel pressured to find a house, so that should give us enough time to find something we love.
Caleb starts his new job in less than two weeks, so we have a lot to do! I've been packing up some things but am beginning to realize how much stuff we have! I hate clutter so everything in our house is put out of sight all of the time. This means that as I'm packing, I'll fill up 10 boxes and it will look like I haven't done anything! Kind of discouraging but we'll get there! Thankfully everything we have now we want to keep so we don't have to try to have a yard sale or get rid of a bunch of things.
Does anyone have any packing or moving tips? I'd love to hear them!

Congrats! That's awesome! Oh how I hate moving and packing though. I'm sure you'll label everything b/c you are organized, but that would be my one tip!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new adventure! There was a period of about 6 months that I had to move three times. I invested in large Rubbermaid containers to pack everything in, and now I use several for storing things. I find that they are durable and protect your items well. And reusable which I love! Best of luck during your transition!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! So exciting to hear! I hope for your sake you're staying in Virginia (jokes!) moving tips...i think when you get there set a goal everyday - i will unpack these 5, 10, etc. boxes, rather than being overwhelmed. and when you're done with those 10 you can keep going or you can wake up the next day with a new goal. it helped keep me calm when i moved to nyc.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I'm very excited for you guys. Moving stinks, but it's exciting too. I always make sure to throw out anything I don't need or want and take the time to organize what I can as I go. No need in dragging things from one place to another that you don't need. Also, I numbered the boxes and made a general list on a legal pad of what was in them so I could find what I needed once they were moved.
ReplyDeletei've never moved (since i was 2 years old from NY to PR), but i think is really smart of you to rent and then buy! that was a tip from you to me, cause my boyfriend and i have future plans :)
ReplyDeletecongrats to your hubby!
kisses,

Congrats!!! I hope everything goes well in your new home!! ANd good luck to your hubby!!
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting!!! Congratulations on the new job and next chapter. Where are y'all moving to? I'm so excited to hear all about your new place and decorating. Congrats!!! Packing tips...go to the liquor store they have tons of boxes for free. Also the boxes that wine comes in with the holes for each bottle are perfect for packing dishes!
ReplyDeleteOh and this may sound obvious, but make sure you write on the box what room you want it to go in.....this ditz missed that memo our last move. oops!
ReplyDeleteWow...congrats on the new job and best of luck in your new home!
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time! Although, I love the idea of a new home, new place I still don't envy you and the packing process...haha The only tip I have is to hire movers! We did that last time and I couldn't believe how easy moving felt:) And of course you probably already know this but marking the outside of each box for the room the stuff belongs too always makes unpacking a breeze!
ReplyDeletecongrats such exciting news!! That's great about the new job and him loving what he'll be doing. good luck on the packing process!!

Congrats! How exciting! We will be moving right around the same time!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!! This is very exciting! My one tip: GIVEAWAY/THROW OUT! Every time I moved home from college, I would clean out. And in my ongoing preparation to move in the next month or so, I have been doing major cleaning out.
ReplyDeleteI agree that rubbermaid bins are an excellent way to pack, especially if you can find them on sale, all the same size and color. It makes it easy to store everything if you don't want to unpack. Number your boxes, and then make little index cards with the number on top and all items in the box on the card; this makes it easy to find EXACTLY what you're looking for when unpacking. Stand plates upright, not stacked on top of one another.
ReplyDeleteYay for you! And good luck in moving & packing! Such hard work - I wish I had tips but I'm a fan of hiring someone, lol!

ReplyDeleteI have moved so. many. times. The best advice I can give is to get proper packing supplies and diligently stow your fragile items (even when you're totally exhausted of packing). And, hire movers. Renting a Uhaul yourself honestly isn't much cheaper and your back will thank you. Just don't forget to read the Yelp reviews first...
ReplyDeleteCongrats, that's super exciting!!! Can't wait to find out where you moved too, and good luck!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! Let the chaos begin :-)
ReplyDeleteMoving is never that fun, but once you are there you get to enjoy your new adventure! Just keep telling yourself that while you pack...
ReplyDeleteI'm bummed that you're not on my way home anymore, but you're still close enough to visit! And I have a tip for moving day. Obviously since you're moving in, you won't have unpacked anything yet, but you will need things like toilet paper, soap, and towels in the bathroom right away. So I always pack a bag of that stuff and then keep it where it won't get packed away, and then unload it as soon as I get into the new place. Also, if you've got people helping you move, it's nice to provide bottled water or something. I'm all about helping the help.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!! It wouldn't happen to be to Louisiana would it?? ; )
ReplyDeletePraying for a safe and smooth move!
good luck with the move!!
ReplyDeleteYay! Congrats and good luck on the new move. Moving tips, huh? Hmmm. Don't trust anyone but yourself or your husband with breakables...I learned that the hard way!
ReplyDeleteWow - congratulations to you both! And good luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! My advice since I've moved 4 times in the past 4 years is to think tetris! The movers for one move estimated a certain number of book boxes and I had that number cut in half, all by playing tetris! So have 3/4 boxes set up and just start configuring things into them!
ReplyDeleteI have some blog catching up to do apparently! Congrats on your hubby's new job and good luck with the move. My advice: have a glas of wine and THEN start packing :) is that good advice? Haha it works for me!
ReplyDeleteOohhh it's sweat to hear that guys! Congrats to Caleb with his new job and to u2 for entering so important part of your lifetime like moving into your own house!!) Speaking of moving tips, I have some, because me either moved to my new call-it real estate in the another city a month ago) So, when I was moving to Miami it was very important to me to move all of my stuff on the first try, because I had no time and willing to spare this for several days because of work and jetlag. So a friend of mine here had suggested me to ask these guys - he described them as the best professional movers near me https://topqualitymoving.com/areas-served/ And he was right!) By the evening time I was already unpackaging all of my beloved stuff in my brand you house) So this is my first tip to you and feel free to ask me for any other if you need some more :D
